Senate Bill 5321 claims that access to abortion is a “human right” and is “vital for promoting public health”. Because of this, WA democrats want to mandate abortion pills on state colleges and universities. The bill refers to women as “pregnancy capable”, continuing to push their alternate reality that somehow women are not the only sex that are “pregnancy capable.”
Mandatory Provision: By the start of the 2026-27 academic year, each student health center at public institutions must offer medication abortion services either directly, via telehealth, or through a public program connecting students to reproductive health services.
In a statement to The Seattle Times on January 22nd:
Institutions Without Health Centers: Institutions without a student health center must provide information and referral services for medication abortion, including:
Referrals to at least two qualified healthcare providers.
Private, accessible space for telehealth appointments.
Technical support including reliable internet and devices for telehealth.
Information and Resources:
All institutions must maintain a comprehensive health services website with detailed information on reproductive health services, including how to schedule appointments and details on campus resources for academic accommodations related to pregnancy and medical treatment
In a state like WA where abortion is pretty much legal at any time for any reason…and it’s free too!…we advocate for guardrails to protect women. The abortion pill has a complication rate four times that of a surgical abortion. 15% of women experience hemorrhaging and the risk of an incomplete abortion increases with gestational age, which can be difficult for some young women to calculate, making the “telehealth” prescription more dangerous.
Unplanned pregnancies happen for college students. I know, it happened to me. Where are the other options for pregnant students? Where is the option to choose LIFE? Washington doesn’t want students to choose life, they want to make abortion as readily available as birth control. This takes the life of a tiny human being in the womb and it likely will create mental and emotional distress for the student, not just at the time of the abortion but likely for many years to come.
