Have the pro-abortion lawmakers had a change of heart?
*By Julie Barrett
Washington’s SB 6151 has passed out of its final committee this week and will now head to a floor vote before the end of session. There has been some confusion about this bill among the public as many pro-life groups and organizations have taken a supportive (or no) position on this piece of legislation and Conservative Ladies has been opposed since the bill dropped.
So let’s talk about it…
The prime sponsor of SB 6151 is Senator Emily Randall. A self-proclaimed “queer” woman from the 26th legislative district in North Kitsap. Randall was elected in 2019, previously having worked for Planned Parenthood. She is currently running for United States Congress in WA’s 6th district and is endorsed by Planned Parenthood.
You may also recall Senator Randall from a couple years ago when she was celebrating the vandalism of a prolife billboard. You can read the story and see the video here: https://mynorthwest.com/3547788/rantz-democrat-senator-celebrates-pro-life-vandalism-abortion/
The bill prohibits an individual other than a licensed health care provider, or a person working under a health care provider's supervision, from providing an ultrasound.
Well that sounds easy enough, right?
Here’s where we have to put on our critical thinking cap. “Why would one of the most pro abortion senators in the legislature want to pass a bill that would closely scrutinize ultrasound providers?” (Especially considering HB 1954 which just passed today that provides protection for abortion, “gender affirming care” and assisted suicide providers. And, HB 2115 is on deck to be passed which allows abortion providers to leave their names off Rx labels. A little inconsistency here…)
In looking at the fiscal note for 6151, it states: “This bill would require that all ultrasounds (medical and non-medical) are performed by, or under the supervision of, a licensed healthcare professional. The department anticipates complaints regarding unlicensed practice, which would prompt investigation by the department.”
The fiscal note also states, “New Rulemaking is Required,” referring to the Washington Administrative Code (WAC) which is created by pro-abortion, appointed bureaucrats (namely, the Washington State Board of Health.) This is where things are going to get interesting…and I don’t mean that in a good way. The legislature doesn’t have to be part of this process, it will be entirely up to the WSBOH, likely very much directed by the pro-abortion executive branch.
Have you heard about ultrasound complaints in Washington? Is this a big issue that the public is unaware of? I had hoped to hear from legislators the facts and data that are driving this bill. I never did get an answer. Two people showed up to testify on this bill in both public hearings. They refused to give their names and they gave a hear-say account of something that happened to their 16-year-old daughter who was “violated” when given a trans-vaginal ultrasound (the most common ultrasound in early pregnancy). The parents were not with her and sadly, in Washington state the lawmakers have made it so that children over 13 can consent to their own medical care, removing an important layer of parent protection.
In 2022 WA Attorney General Bob Ferguson created a “Reproductive Rights” complaint form on the AG website. This is where people can report anyone who might be interfering with their “right” to an abortion.
Are there ultrasound complaints coming from this website? Why were they not addressed in the background of the bill?
This bill solves no problem. It is unnecessary, at best.
But don’t trust me. I asked Senator Mike Padden, ranking member of the Senate Long Term Health Care Committee what message he would like me to relay to the people about this bill. Here is what he sent me:
SB 6151 had the weakest pro testimony given by individuals who did not identify themselves regarding so called information that they had no personal knowledge about. It was anonymous hearsay from an unknown person.
This legislation is sponsored by pro abortion senators who want to see more abortions. Crisis Pregnancy Centers are the target. Why? They show the humanity of the unborn baby sucking his or her thumb, moving their little hands and feet. When they are seen, the culture of life wins and the tiny humans survive!
The most pro abortion executive branch in the history of our state will be promulgating WAC rules that will impact Crisis Pregnancy Centers.
They can not be trusted. Urging a NO vote on SB 6151
Sen Mike Padden

This bill passed out of the Senate with every Republican voting NO. The bill passed out of the House Health Care Committee this week, again, with every Republican voting NO.
The pro-abortion democrats have not suddenly had a change of heart. This bill is a means for them to create a new WAC rule that will target Crisis Pregnancy Centers.
Did you know: 80% of expectant mothers who say their baby on ultrasound choose life?!
It’s no wonder they would want to make new ways to investigate and penalize those who provide these services at no charge.
We continue to oppose this bill and ask for legislators to vote no. The current call to action is to send an email to your House representatives. You can use our pre-filled form or you can customize it with your own (recommended!) Click the button below
