SEATTLE, WA - WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3, 2024
Seattle journalist Jonathan Choe has been documenting the escalating refugee situation in King County over the last several months. On Wednesday, a migrant group, led by Seattle activists, set up camp on the tennis courts at Garfield High School after their motel housing in Kent and SeaTac expired.
Late Wednesday afternoon an anonymous donor came through with funding for 11 days in a local motel for the group but activists are demanding funding from the city and state. The funding ($32+ MILLION taxpayer dollars), approved last month by the state legislature, is not available until July 2024.
All of this ties to HB 2368, passed this session in Olympia.
