REVEALED! WA anti-2A legislation
We now know exactly what to expect for citizen disarmament in Olympia in 2025
Last Thursday William Kirk, President of Washington Gun Law, joined Julie Barrett for a livestream to “read the tea leaves” on what he anticipates we will see in Washington state for further erosion of the 2nd amendment.
Yesterday the Alliance for Gun Responsibility released their policy agenda which includes every policy Bill and Julie discussed as likely to return in 2025, with a heavy priority on a “permit to purchase” scheme.
From yesterday’s press release from AGR:
“Permit-to-Purchase laws are proven as the single most effective policy to save lives and reduce gun violence,” said Renee Hopkins, CEO for the Alliance for Gun Responsibility. “All of our work in Washington over the last decade has been leading to this pivotal moment. We’ve created a strong centralized background check system, passed laws to remove guns from dangerous situations like domestic violence and partnered with law enforcement to ensure thorough and equitable implementation, advocated for funding dedicated to community violence intervention programs – all of these policies together build an infrastructure to support a full permit-to-purchase system. It’s time for Washington to take this strong step forward.”
Rep. Liz Berry will be the prime sponsor of the 2025 permit to purchase bill, which has not been filed as of December 10th.
Among their priorities is an effort to “strengthen enforcement” of existing laws, which will include dealer regulations and oversight and adding to the list of “sensitive places” where firearms will be prohibited.
Thanks to Dan Mitchell, owner of Sporting Systems in Vancouver, Wash., and founder/CEO at the Washington Civil Rights Association, who tipped us off on this news via Bill Kirk at Washington Gun Law. In a statement to Liberty Park Press, Dan stated:
“I expect to see all of them this session. Look around the country to see what’s being pushed or passed in other regions, and it’s what coming here. Completely unoriginal, but you can bet your bottom dollar the anti-gunners here in Washington still need something to fundraise for.”
