Special Protections, but only for some children
New pre-filed bill in Washington excludes students while promising inclusivity
Pre-filed in Washington on December 30th, Senate Bill 5123 aims to expand anti-discrimination protections in Washington's public schools. It adds new categories like gender expression, gender identity, homelessness, immigration status, and neurodivergence to the list of protected classes
The bill amends RCW 28A.642 to include new and expanded definition of these "certain students".
"Gender EXPRESSION" - note, with kids this can change often, sometimes on the daily or whatever is "trending"
"Gender IDENTITY" is based on the child's internal sense of being...also can change often. Puberty is crazy like that.
NEW!! IMMIGRATION STATUS!! Expect to see more of this as WA democrats prepare to take on the Trump administration's *promises* to deport illegal aliens and WA is a sanctuary state.
The bill claims to promote inclusivity by ensuring that public schools in Washington provide an environment free from discrimination, harassment, and exclusion. It emphasizes the mental health benefits of inclusivity, particularly for marginalized groups, citing studies from the radical left organization, The Trevor Project which show positive impacts on reducing suicidal ideation among LGBTQ students in affirming schools.
