WA: More Week 6 Calls to Action
You’re not having deja-vu, all of these bills have previously had public hearings. They’re now being heard in the opposite chamber, so we’re asking you to sign in once again. Just 3 bills today - if you’re quick, you can do it in less than one minute! Go!
SB 6095 would grant emergency-like powers during non-emergencies. This bill would sacrifice informed consent for urgency.
"This is about infectious disease and vaccines and what they [dept of health] couldn't do during the pandemic. This would allow emergency powers to the department of health, violating informed consent." Bob Runnells, Director, Informed Choice WA
We do not believe that the WA Secretary of Health should be granted additional powers and control as it will very likely violate the informed consent of Washington citizens during an "emergency."
*Must sign in CON before 7AM, Friday, February 16th
SB 6269: Pilot program for alternative voter verification
SB 6269 would create a pilot program for counties around the state to employ to try alternative methods of voter verification other than the usual signature verification process as they find it is not equitable and harms marginalized groups. It is another way to game the system.
*Must sign in CON before 7AM, Friday, February 16th
SB 5444: Concerning firearm sensitive places.
Adds several locations to the list of designated places at
which it is a gross misdemeanor for any person to enter while knowingly possessing a weapon/firearm, including: zoos, aquariums, public transit, “state or public buildings” and more
*Must sign in CON before 9:30AM, Friday, February 16th
Good news! We’re in the home stretch! Next Wednesday, February 21st, is the final day of public hearings in committees. After that it will be executive sessions followed by floor action to vote on bills to send to the governor. (Yikes!!) Keep going - the finish line is in sight!
Thanks for taking action! (don’t forget to share this post!)
Join us tomorrow for our weekly “Lunchtime Legislation.” This is a great opportunity to connect with other citizen activists and group leaders and learn about what’s happening in the week ahead and how you can take action!
