WA school board updates "gender inclusive" policies to include parents
Last week we shared a big win out of California against the “gender inclusive” school policies that exclude parents and withhold important information about their children. We’re excited to bring you an update out of Washington state about a school board that revised their “gender inclusive” policies to include parents.
Last Wednesday, May 8th, Kennewick School Board revised their policy stating: “The district recognizes that parents/guardians have the primary role to play in anything affecting the health and welfare of their children. Additionally, questioning gender identity and gender transitioning affects the health and welfare of children.”
The board guiding principles states, in part: “While under the law it is the role of the school to avoid and prevent discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression, it is not the role of the schools to facilitate questioning gender identity or to facilitate gender transitioning.”
Gabe Galbraith, Kennewick’s School Board President told Conservative Ladies of Washington:
“KSD recognizes that parents/guardians have the primary role to play in anything affecting the health and welfare of their children.
This policy ensures parents are included, ownership of these types of conversation's starts with the student and not staff, and to ensure staff know that it’s not required to ask for pronouns.”
Unfortunately, Washington state laws prohibit the school board from making policies that would require students to use the facilities and participate on teams, that align with their biological sex. The changes made to the KSD “gender inclusive schools” policies is a big win for students and families.
TAKE ACTION!!
Please consider writing to your own school board (even if you don’t have children in school…you still pay taxes) and encourage them to make similar revisions to their “gender inclusive schools” policy. Even better: attend the next school board meeting and make a public comment about this issue. If you need help, reach out to our team at info@conservativeladiesofamerica.com
