This year Washington legislature passed SB 5427, creating a hate crimes and bias incidents hotline. This bill was passed along party lines in the House and bipartisan in the Senate with Senator Ron Muzzall (R) voting yes.
There’s been a lot of confusion and old information about SB 5427 shared in recent weeks because the original version was substantially different than the final version of the bill that passed.
Considering that the hotline must be active statewide by 2027, we predict additional funding will be added to this policy in coming legislative sessions. This is on our “watch list.”
An additional concern: while the passed version *claims* it doesn’t take names of offenders, we anticipate that this would be included during or after the pilot project. After all, what is the point of the hotline if they are not collecting identify information of the people committing these “hate crimes and bias incidents?” And when they do start collecting names, what will they do with that information?

Bottom line:
Should you be concerned? Yes. This policy sets a dangerous precedent. It is anti-American and unconstitutional. We cannot be making it a “crime” to offend someone, which is essentially what this policy does.
Are you safe if you don’t live in WA? Absolutely not. We see these democrat-controlled states using a “copycat” method for their legislation.
This is exactly why citizens must engage in government - even if you live in a red state. It’s up to us to stand up, speak up and take action to preserve our country!
