Washington Democrats pushing the Ranked Choice Voting Act
Next week, the Washington House State Elections and Government will hold a public hearing for HB 2250, the “Ranked Choice Voting Act.” This is a dangerous bill which would not improve Washington elections, but make them more confusing. Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) is often dubbed “Rigged Choice Voting.”
Voters rank candidates in order of preference. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of first-choice votes in the first round of voting, the last-place finisher is eliminated, and his votes are reallocated to the voter’s second-choice candidate. This process continues until one candidate receives a majority of votes.
This week, Georgia Lt. Gov. Burt Jones and state republicans introduced SB 355, which would prohibit the use of RCV in state elections. If successful, Georgia would be the sixth state to ban ranked choice voting.
“Ranked-choice voting is designed to cause confusion and fatigue among voters,” Jones said in a statement. “This type of voting system, pushed by dark money groups, could cause a drastic increase in the number of ballots being thrown out, disenfranchising Georgia voters. Georgians deserve to have the utmost faith in their elections, and those pushing Ranked-choice voting are only hindering that faith.”
Washington citizens have very little, if any, faith in the elections process. Most people vote, knowing the system is highly flawed but understand the importance of voting regardless. Passing HB 2250 would serve to frustrate, discourage and disenfranchise conservative voters even further…it could be the final straw for many.
HB 2250 has a hearing on January 24th at 1:30PM. Please consider signing up to testify either in person or remotely on this bill. Click the button below to take the 30-Second-Call-to-Action and OPPOSE this bill
HB 2016 would allow 16 and 17 year olds to contract for housing and utilities. This is in response to the youth homeless crisis, due in part, to familial conflict...conflict that state lawmakers have encouraged and facilitated. Watch the video to learn more and TAKE ACTION!
